MASTER PROJECT: ESCAPE FROM SOLITARY

For my Master Project solo project, I was tasked to create two game design projects. I choose to create a 3D first person puzzle game for the first project with supporting design documentation for the second project.

Project 1: Game Project
For the main part of the project, I choose to create a 3D first person puzzle escape room game as I had previous experience in this genre while using Unreal Engine.

I planned to use escape rooms as a basis for how I would design my levels and puzzles due to past positive experiences with them.
For the visual theme of the game, I took influence from pessimistic science fiction media such as the Alien films which influenced the design of the game's assets and background music.

I created two levels, one from the start of the game where the player would be taught the mechanics in a safe environment at their own pace and a level at the end of the game where the player would use all that they have learned to complete a puzzle while their game character is in danger.

Project 2: Design Documentation
For the second project, I choose to create design documentation that could be used to create the game discussed above. I created the documentation to match with industry standards by including formating to match my game's theme as well as include images from other games and my game to help visualise my points.
The documents I created as part of this project were:
High Concept Document, to pitch my game and introduce ideas such as puzzle types
Game Design Document, to describe how the game would work from the player's perspective
Technical Document, to explain how the game would work from a developer's perspective
Narrative Document, to discuss the narrative of the game and how the player progresses through the game
Level Design Document, to explain my design choices and the level map along with their variations
