"WITH OUR HEARTS OF STEEL" LEVEL DESIGNS
In my third year, I created design documentation for a hypothetical RTS game called "With our Hearts of Steel".
As an extension of the project I took the three level designs I created with the project and made them in Unreal Engine 4 to demonstrate my understanding of level design.
The levels were created at a scale of 1:4 to save file space as the levels are currently for show.
The Chasm
An early game level which will be used to teach the players about sending their units along multiple paths in order to reach a single goal. This is done by having a large gap in the middle of the level to have the player to use four paths to reach the enemy base while keeping track of the enemy units heading towards their base. The player can either use long range units, place units to defend the paths while advancing on one path or try to advance on all paths and change stratergies to defend the pathway when needed.
The Desert
A mid game level that starts the player on one end of the map and tasks them with making thier way towards the other end of the map to get to their main base, avoiding land mines and an enemy team base that will attempt to destroy the player's main base. The player can either focus on heading towards their main base to complete the mission or to destroy the enemy base first to avoid the possible loss condition.
The Hill
A mid game level that task the player with making their way up a hill to reach an enemy base, while destroying towers belong to the enemy faction. The player will need to focus on creating units types to either send in units to attack the towers head on or use long range units while also preparing units to be sent to attack the enemy base or prepare for enemy unit attacks.
